solar power

Ben Ramakrishnan

i let the resplendent rays of sun wash over my body

like an answered prayer rushing from the mouths of angels

the heavens above blanket my body in the safety of the rays

the kind of day where i bask in the golden glory and curse the shade

for life on this earth has meaning only when we are awash with those who came before us

our ancestors’ smiles brought down to land by the blinding, shining gleam

lord knows i am not religious, but this can only be the work of a god

this feeling that is rushing through my veins in an incessant, incandescent blaze

in star signs, in closed eyes, in twin flames, in fireflies

i relish in the forbidden fruits of midsummer, tart pops beguiling my lips

find me in the trees with the trysts of the morning in a rushing epiphany

of birds serenading me with a harmonious elixir no designer drug could attempt to replicate

for we are only as lovely and fierce as the romantics before us

if you search for a savior to release your phantoms and pains

look high up above until icarus envies your reach

there waltzes a glittering haze, dazzling the same as it did when you were a child

only, life made you forget it. would you like to remember now?

all the limerence of frigid winters come to rest

as the heat dances on my tongue and enshrines my breath

glowing in a day that is so mundane it is magical

have you ever tasted pure and unadulterated euphoria? i do believe i have
