Editor's note

combine song & writing, maybe name it Mixtape Review? A Notes app entry on my phone, dated 24/7/1 1:01 AM, reads. The Mixtape Review’s origins were humble, no doubt: two students with nothing but a tight budget and a wild dream to found a literary magazine.

But after a website, Instagram page, and a lovely team of editors & social media managers, we can say with certainty that that dream has come true. Here, we bring you the Mixtape Review’s inaugural issue: works spanning in subject matter from the sentient plant being of Consolation Prize to a party for men with animal heads of Frolic. Each by writers of vastly different backgrounds, united only by their appreciation for music and writing.

As Anthony Robinson puts it in “SIT A SPELL,” poetry— all writing— is not “an act of mysticism.” Instead, as you will see while reading Issue One, it is an act of quietude, rage, nostalgia, hope. Enjoy the talented works in our first issue— our first Mixtape, we dare say. And while you do so, listen to the songs embedded in each piece, selected by the writer themselves for you, the reader.

The Mixtape Review is still a dream to us. We have exciting plans that we cannot wait to share. But we were able to reach this far because and only because of you. You, the reader. Thank you for your endless support for the Mixtape Review. This is our gift for you.

With love & gratitude,

Haven Cha and Macie Reed

Editors-in-Chief of the Mixtape Review
